Our store is located at the corner of 8th and Washington in downtown Columbus, Indiana. The address is 803 Washington St. The store will be open in early May through the end of October. We plan to be open from 10 - 6, Monday - Friday and 8-4 on Saturday. You can also find us selling our produce at various farmers markets in southern and central Indiana.
Who grows your produce?
The bulk of our produce is grown by the three families of
Double Oak Farm, the Healys, the Healys and the Moseses. The Moses
family is located in Bartholomew County, Indiana and the Healy Families
are located in Daviess County, Indiana. We also have a dozen or so
Amish
friends and neighbors who are growing for us as well. We also carry items from other local commercial growers, but we will always let you know
where the food you
are buying came from and how it is grown.
Is your produce organic?
It is our goal to grow our produce in a sustainable manner using
products that are not harmful to our environment. However our produce
is not organic. To be certified organic we have to jump through
artificial government hoops and we do not want to play that game or pass those costs on to you. We do
not use harmful chemical pesticides or fertilizers nor do our Amish
growers. At least one of our Amish growers is certified organic. We do purchase items from other growers and we will
always let you know how these items were grown.
Is any work required for your CSA?
No, we do not require any work. However we will offer
opportunities at certain points in the growing season for you to
volunteer. There are certain times during our planting or harvest that
extra help is needed so if you would like to see where your food comes
from please let us know.
What if I can't pick up by vegetable box on Wednesday?
Just let us know. We can't have it ready any earlier, but we can hold
it over a day. Also if you are out of town you can give your box to a
friend or donate it to Love Chapel.
Can I choose what I want in my CSA box?
At this time we do not offer custom boxes. With starting the CSA
and the new farm store in addition to the Fair on the Square we need to
keep the box preparation simple this year. You are welcome to donate
any items you feel you will not use to Love Chapel.
If we pay for a CSA share and something comes up can we get a refund?
No and Yes. We are not able to offer refunds. We are growing produce
based on your order. We can't ungrow the plants. However, if we have a
waiting list and someone is able to take over your subscription then we
can refund any unused portion of your subscription. Prior to June that
would be the full amount. Subtract $25 for each full weeks share that
has been used after that.
Do you offer your CSA in other communities?
We will deliver our CSA boxes to your neighborhood or work place if you get at least 20 people to subscribe. Check to see if your locations qualifies.
I grow fruit or vegetables in my garden. Can I sell you my extras?
We are always interested in fresh local products grown in a responsible
sustainable manner. Stop by the shop or send us an email. If it's a product we can
use we would love to have your join our "growing" family.
Do you sell items in bulk for home canners or restaurants?
Yes, of course. Just get in touch with us and let us know what you
need. We are happy to sell larger quantities of items in stock and if
we do not have it we will find it for you. We will give a bulk discount
based on current market supply and demand.
My family/church/school is having a large event. Can we get a discount on a large order of produce?
Depending on the season and how well our supply is holding
up, we are very happy to work with your large group. Just get in touch
with us and we will see what we can do. Advanced notice is greatly appreciated!
Can you grow a certain fruit or vegetable that I really love?
We all have favorite varieties of fruit or veggies. Just let us know
what you would like to see and if possible we will try a test run of it
next season. Who knows, it may be next summers greatest hit.
